About a hundred experts and professionals attend the presentation of the global adaptation indicator to climate change in Catalonia
The Catalan Office for Climate Change presented at the Museu Colet of Barcelona, the first document able to evaluate and quantify the degree of adaptation to climate change in Catalonia. The document responds to the generic measures envisaged in the Catalan Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change 2013-2020 Horizon (ESCACC): the establishment of a system of monitoring indicators and adaptation measures in order to evaluate whether the adaptation to the impacts of climate change is progressing well. The work of preparing the overall indicator of adaptation began two years ago with the selection of 83 potential indicators assessing the goodness of adaptation measures. The methodology has been established in collaboration with the Catalan Institute of Public Policy Evaluation (Ivàlua), and in the framework of the project Life 12 ENV / ES / 000536 Mediterranean Adapting to Climate Change (LIFE MEDACC) a European project whose office is coordinating partner and that among the actions planned, also provides for the establishment of indicators for adaptation measures. The event generated an intense debate during nearly an hour, during which the audience could ask more than thirty questions that reflected the interest in the work presented and, in turn, pointed to solid improvements in methodology. This day was a clear demonstration that climate change has a good ability to call between citizens.
