Catalan Office for Climate Change

The Catalan Office for Climate Change (OCCC) is the technical instrument of the Catalan Government to promote and coordinate mitigation plans and climate change strategies in Catalonia based on European commitments. In addition, it contributes to the accomplishment of the Kyoto Protocol objectives in Spain.

Recently, OCCC has developed the Catalan Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation (ESCACC 2013-2020).

In MEDACC, OCCC will coordinate the project development and partner contributions. It will undertake, the institutional relationships, the stakeholder links and the impact of project results in the Catalan environmental policies.

CREAF

CREAF is a 25 year public research institution, focused on terrestrial ecology. CREAF’s main objective is to generate knowledge and create new methodological tools in the field of terrestrial ecology, with special emphasis on forest ecology, in order to improve environmental planning and management in rural and urban areas. A research line on Water and Global Change was created in 2008.

In MEDACC, CREAF will coordinate the project technically, with a special focus on climate change vulnerability assessments in selected watersheds, the compilation of adaptive measures already applied, the definition of new adaptation measures and the implementation of forest pilot actions.

Pyrenean Ecology Institute

Pyrenean Ecology Institute is a research center which belongs to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), in the Natural Resources Area. IPE’s main aim is to improve the understanding of terrestrial ecosystem functioning and structure. In addition, IPE’s research focuses on ecosystems changes due to global change (including climate variability and human activities). IPE generates scientific basis for ecosystem conservation and management.

In MEDACC, IPE researchers will be involved in hydro-climatic modelling of selected watersheds and will coordinate the project database creation and platform integration.
