Deurbanization and restoration of the marsh Pletera

Life+ PLETERA13 NAT/ES/00100101.Jul.2014 to 01.Jul.2018

Life Pletera project has the objective to desurbanize and restore the ecological functionality of the coastal systems of Pletera, Estartit, in the basin of the Ter. This project involves removing partially urbanized areas to recover the previous natural space. The project is coordinated by the Torroella Municipality.

The collaboration between Life MEDACC and Life + Pletera project results in the accomplishment of a diagnosis of the current drain capacity of the coastline system of the plain located in the left bank of the River Ter and, in the analysis of adaptation alternatives to reduce the vulnerability of this area.

  • In the case of Life Pletera, the project collects the background and analysis of existing information available in order to establish a link between the actual hydrological conditions that cause flood and its scope. It also conducts a detailed hydrological and geomorphological study to characterize drainage system and the coastal plain associate.
  • In the case of Life MEDACC, the project shares a hydraulic model that generates and allows not only playback of the episodes occurred because of flooding but also the simulation of future events based on projected climate variables.

With the model already built and calibrated Life MEDACC and Pletera will simulate various scenarios to decide and agree on adaptation measures to reduce the vulnerability of the system of coastal plain located on the left bank of the River Ter. Also the projects will inform the stakeholders of the territory with which they have established or establish contacts throughout the development of their respective projects Life.
