Society adapting to Global Change

FP7 -SiS - BeWaterFP7-SIS.2013.1.2-161238501.Oct.2013 to 30.Apr.2017

The FP7 BeWater project promotes dialogue and collaboration between science and society for sustainable water management and adaptation to the impacts of global change in the Mediterranean. BeWater uses an iterative process of mutual learning, participatory techniques and a bottom-up approach to ensure that stakeholders play an active role in determining appropriate strategies for management of river basins. In four Case Study River Basins across the Mediterranean, newly developed methodologies integrating physical, ecological, social and management processes are used to develop Water Management Options. These Management Options will be discussed with local communities who will participate in drawing up locally-relevant Adaptation Plans, which may be scaled up to develop guidelines of national and international relevance. BeWater project is coordinated by CREAF and one of the Case Study River Basin is located in Catalonia (Tordera basin).

The networking activities between Life MEDACC and FP7 Bewater projects have resulted in the participation of the partners in the project activities.

  • In the case of FP7 BeWater, partners from Life MEDACC project participate as project Advisory Board and as key stakeholders on the different workshop performed to help in the river basin diagnosis and in the design of Water Management Options and Adaptation Plan for the Tordera.
  • In the case of Life MEDACC, the partners incorporate to the project the knowledge and expertise adquired during the BeWater process to design the Water Management Options and Adaptation Plans.
